Racing Classes at HYC

At HYC there are currently two handicap systems used: NHC & YTC.
Members can choose which handicap to race under.
NHC
The National Handicap for Cruisers (NHC) is a progressive yacht racing handicap system developed by the RYA to make club-level racing fairer by automatically adjusting a boat’s handicap based on its performance in previous races. It penalizes winning boats and helps underperforming ones, encouraging closer competition over a series
YTC
The RYA YTC (Yacht Time Correction) is a free, simple handicap system developed by the RORC Rating Office and RYA to encourage club-level racing for cruisers and cruiser-racers. It provides a fair, transparent, and easy-to-apply rating based on basic boat measurements (sail area, displacement, etc.), making it ideal for club racing rather than major, professional events.
