Visiting the Club – Winteringham

Guests are welcome at the HYC, but contact should be made ahead of time to check for berth availability & to get the latest info regarding the entrance channels, which can change at short notice.

The following should be considered guidance only & vessel masters should carry out their own passage planning.

Upriver from the Humber Bridge, the river tends to change a lot, and ABP publish a new chart as often as bi-monthly. Unfortunately this is not available in a format that will work with modern chart plotters, the only options are to buy the latest chart in paper form, or it can be downloaded as a free PDF from the ABP website here.

Winteringham Haven is situated on the south bank of the Humber, approximately 1.5 miles due south of the HYC base at Brough.

While both havens are tidally restricted, in particular Winteringham has quite a tortuous channel and low water levels.
Visitors are advised to contact the Winteringham Club House or members for up to date advice on the amount of water available at particular states of the tide.

The buoy which marks the entrance to the creek is at approximately:
053°42.05’N, 000°34.86’W

From the outer mark the channel into Winteringham Haven is marked by a series of red and green cans and can be quite shallow even at Spring tides. The creek is sinuous and bordered by reed beds.
Deeper water exists on the outer edges of the bends.

Fore and aft pontoon moorings in the haven are on the starboard hand. Electricity and water points are available.
The club house, toilet and shower facilities are situated towards the head of the creek.

The village of Winteringham is a ten minute walk from the club where there is a pub, a restaurant, a post office and several small shops.
